History of Gamma Knife

The Gamma-ray bistoury was designed by professor Lars Leksell in Stockholm, Sweden. The prototype of Gamma Knife appeared after numerous researches realized since 1940. The idea was that of creating a system which allowed treating lesions in the depths of brain without the need to take the risks implied when opening the skull, like in the traditional neurologic surgery.

Thanks to this, we have now the most advanced technology in Stereotactic Radiosurgery, which uses the most modern computer programs, in order to allow us integrating the tomography, angiography, and magnetic resonance images to obtain an exact representation of the intracranial pathology affecting the patient.
